IOio antenna 2m/70cm for satellite

I am reading Simon 2E0HTS blog and in his last spots impressed me video how Simon and his friend M1PAC working QSOs over low orbit satellite in FM mode. Followed information about IOio antenna documented by EA4CYQ. It looks quite simple and I decided to make this antenna – first step of satellite communication, I hope.

I decided to try some new techniques for this antenna build, which I seen on internet before. So, I went to the shop and bought PVC tube 32mm with several wall holders. Cable with 4 cupreous wires each with 10mm2 cross-section and clamp.

I must admit I did not read document from EA4CYQ, only printed first page with dimensions and started design “O” – 2m loop. It was quite complicated work with 2m long wire in our small hamshack. I used wall holders to hold antenna elements as I seen on ok1cdj 2m portable antenna and clamp to fix them in center position. After while I found right way and with father's assistence we completed all elements and I placed them onto beam.

We temporaly soldered coax to 2m part and we went out to meassure SWR – 1:1.2. Then conected 70cm and repeated messure procedure, MFJ showed 1:1.2 on 435Mhz.

Antenna is not completed yet, second coax missing and boom is too long. But, this would not be problem. Then only print satellite passes , take 2 TRXes and go out make first QSO(s).

Hi Thomas, Thanks for the

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the nice info. I'd like also working FM Bird.
I've just build my Yagi Uda Double Band Antenna reff. to XE1MEX but not completely yet. I hope I could work some AO51 or ISS.
See you soon via the bird.

Good luck Jon. Hurry up,

Good luck Jon. Hurry up, there should be SSTV activity on ISS in October. We already performed some tests with IOio antenna, but signals on 70cm were pretty week. Question if IC-R10 sensitivity, sat mode or something else. Unfortunatelly, weather is bad now, winter is almost here, so next experiments will continue when we will be able operate from portable..

I was looking on tracking software and I am afraid that contact via low orbit is simply impossible. The range of sat is short. Meybe Eagle?
