CQ WW RTTY 2011 OL2X

As previous year 2010 and 2008, father OK2BX and me OK4BX, participated CQ WW RTTY contest with our contest callsign OL2X. We have same configuration for past couple years – power ~200W and 40–10m multiband vertical. After last years’ 930Q, I suggested we could try break 1000Q mark.

Dad started contest while I was sleeping. Morning, when I came to the computer, we had first 80Q. Spent some time on 40M and realized writelog did not count US states. Tried repair it, but no success. So, total score was incorrect and little difficulty with dupe checking for US stations, as message new multiplier has higher priority.

After 40M, I decided to look on 10M and what surprise. On frequency in band register was tuned JH4UYB and CQing. It was hard to see and believe. After moment, I gave try and got reply immediately. Wow. Then I found TR8CA and then followed almost with rest of the world.

In the evening, I left seat by radio to my dad again and we had 450Q in the log that time. When I went to the shack, I was curious about progress and I found 600Q. Rest of whole day I pushed hard with vision of one thousand contacts. Afternoon, when I reached 800Q, started loose optimism that we can do it, because add every new contact took so much energy and time.

6 hours before end and I round it 900Q, which was not so bad. We switched again and I spent rest of evening with dad in shack on other PC and spoke with him. We had rtty audio in headphones which laid on table and macros mode make advantage do more than contesting parallel.

Finally, we succeed and we won our 1000 contest. After re-scoring in writelog on my notebook, we realized, that we broke 1 Meg points mark, closely. We will see about official result after log checks..

I miss at least 100Q during our afternoon/evening to US on 20M as previous years and contests. I guess they enjoyed 10M/15M during their daylight too. Anyway, lovely contest.
