CQ WW SSB 2012 - OK4BX

I joined CQWW SSB contest also this year. There is always same hardware at our station, so 10m was only one choice for me. It is only band, where our vertical perform good SWR in whole phone portion of band. CONDX forecast was promising and I hoped for similar propagation like in 2011.

I’m not one, who push in contest for any price, I can leave shack if I don’t feel fine and rather rest. So, my strategy was based on my current confidence. Only thing I need setup during Friday evening was Panasonic camcorder, which I used as webcam for livestream video mixed with audio from transceiver and increase contest fun factor.

I woke without alarm and moved to shack. Logged several Japanese stations and it was good sign. Contacts came quickly to my contest logbook. This time I had good idea about target score and number of QSO, which I set year ago and it bring me certificate in 10m LP category.

During contest came to see me my twitter friends. Connie NR4CB stayed with me some time this year again. I saw Jason NT7S and was glad meet Stefano IZ3NVR. I was also happy show what is hamradio contesting to random visitor, who called them-self EagleChicken and came from Ukraine.

After contest, I found also this great photo from hamshack of Phil KL8DX. Phil watched me on iPad, meanwhile he was waiting for his opening in Alaska.

After first day, I finished with 300 Qso. Stefano challenged me to beat 500. I was not sure if I can continue in same pace on Sunday. Also question, if I’m able S&P so many stations on single band. Calling CQ is hopeless act with vertical and LP. Finally, I succeed that challenge, but it was race with coming night and end of propagation. Last 40 Qso looked unreal, but I did it.

Very interesting was explore propagation during and after sunset. They were little different both evenings. Anyway, this year was not propagation, so good as year ago. I missed many countries, I worked easily in 2011.

Highlight: Qso with NH2T. First wave with all EU big guns was huge. Anyway, I was able make contact during second band scan. Some minutes later I heard called CQ KG6DX. He was alone without absolutely any attention. He was weak, but immediate response. It made my day, I worked those 2 stations from Guam in single contest. Zone and country is “secured” in this case :)
